ONE Magazine was published from 1953 until 1967 by the Los Angeles gay rights organization ONE, Inc., an offshoot of the Mattachine Society. It was the first periodical dedicated to positive coverage of gay rights. In 1954, the U.S. Postal Service deemed the publication obscene and refused to deliver it, the organization sued and won in 1958 with the Supreme Court decision, One, Inc. v. Olesen. The magazine covered a range of topics relating to the gay community and the early homophile movement.
In 1965, board members of the organization split off and attempted to publish a similar magazine with the same title only to lose a lawsuit brought by One, Inc. and the derivative magazine was renamed, Tangents.
